Anwar Ibrahim Lecture Series

The Anwar Ibrahim Lecture on Islam and Governance was established in 2022 through a generous gift from the International Institute for Islamic Thought (IIIT). This annual event brings to George Mason University—and occasionally to international venues—a distinguished global scholar whose work explores the intersections of Islam, society, and governance in their broadest dimensions. Designed as a platform for critical dialogue and scholarly exchange, the lecture highlights the diversity of intellectual perspectives shaping contemporary debates about religion and public life. While most lectures are hosted on GMU’s Fairfax campus, the series also extends abroad to strengthen the AbuSulayman Center’s global academic partnerships and foster conversation across borders.
