Elliott Colla is chair of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University. He is co-editor of Jadaliyya e-zine, and author of Conflicted Antiquities: Egyptology, Egyptomania, Egyptian Modernity (Duke University Press, 2007), and translator of works of contemporary Arabic literature, including Ibrahim Aslan'’s novel, The Heron, Idris Ali’'s Poor, and Ibrahim al-Koni's Gold Dust, as well as works by Yahya al-Tahir ‘Abdallah, Ghada Abdel Meniem and others. He is currently translating The Animists, al-Koni's epic of the Sahara, and Rabai al-Madhoun's The Lady from Tel Aviv (Telegram Books, 2012).

Dr. Douja Mamelouk was born in Tunis, Tunisia.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and French Literature from Willamette University, Salem Oregon (1998), a Master of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies from the American University in Cairo (2000) and a certificate in Sustainable Development from the University of the Middle East in Casablanca, Morocco (2000).  She received her Ph.D. in Arabic Language, Literature and Linguistics from Georgetown University (2010).  She has taught at Georgetown University, Catholic University and the George Washington University, all in the District of Columbia.  Douja is currently an Assistant Professor of Arabic and French Literature at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Rosie Bsheer is a doctoral candidate in the Department of History at Columbia University, where she also earned a Master of Arts in International Relations in 2006. Her academic training has been primarily in the history, politics, and culture of the modern Middle East, with a focus on the Arab states of the Persian Gulf. Since 2010, Rosie has also served as Co-Editor for Jadaliyya. Rosie just returned to New York City after two years of conducting dissertation research in Saudi Arabia as an SSRC-IDRF fellow and Columbia University GSAS fellow for her dissertation, currently titled “Making History: Petro-modernity and Spatial Transformations in Saudi Arabia.
