Ahmadi Diaspora Adaptation in the American Context

In this presentation, Dr. Halide Rümeysa Küçüköner will examine the adaptation process of the Ahmadi diaspora in the United States, with a particular focus on contemporary Ahmadis. The discussion looks at how Ahmadis have navigated migration to the U.S., developed their religious identity, and integrated into American society. Generational differences and the balance between identity preservation and adaptation are important topics. To understand the community’s adaptation in economic, cultural, and religious aspects, subjects such as integration and community structures are included. The presentation will also address the impact of exclusion within the broader American Muslim community on Ahmadi identity.

Dr. Halide Rumeysa Küçüköner is an academic specializing in, Islamic traditions in Southeast Asia, the interpretation of Islam across different geographies and in cultural Islam. She serves as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Theology, Dicle University. Since 2023, she has been a Visiting Scholar at the AbuSulayman Center for Global Islamic Studies. She has been awarded scholarships from the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) as well as student and academic grants from the Erasmus Exchange Program.
