Ph.D. Fellowship Opportunity Available for 2012-2013

The Ali Vural Ak Center for Global Islamic Studies is pleased to announce an initiative to support students currently enrolled in a Mason PhD program whose research focuses on Islam or Muslim societies. One fellowhip will be offered during the 2012-13 academic year in the amount of $10,000.

The fellowship funds may be used to cover tuition fees, fieldwork, other direct research expenses, general living costs, or some combination of these. Successful candidates will be expected to contibute to the intellectual life of the Center by giving a public presentation of their research and by writing a short article on their work for inclusion on the Center's website.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, a proposal of up to four pages summarizing their research and explaining how the fellowhip would support their degree progress, and a one page itemized budget. In addition, an e-mail recommendation from the candidate's main adviser should be included in the application package.

Deadline for completed applcations is Friday May 4, 2012. All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of members of the Center's faculty steering committee.

Announcements of fellowship awards will be made by late May 2012.
