The Washington Post recently carried an op-ed written by Susan Douglass, Grant Project Coordinator of the Ali Vural Ak Center for Global Islamic Studies. The op-ed was entitled “Claims of Pro-Islamic Bias in Textbooks Are Wrong,” and was an articulate and timely response to a textbook resolution released by the Texas Board of Education charging textbook publishers of “favoring Islam over Christianity.”

According to Douglass, “A look at common US textbooks refutes the [Texas Board of Education’s] charge, which distorts the role of teaching about religion in US public schools.” She continues to argue that “Christian history is actually treated in an exemplary manner in most history textbooks.... by comparison with Christianity, coverage of other world faiths is static and limited.”
